The knexsis
approach to virtual community-building
A community project is organized and managed by knexsis in the following sequence of logic steps:
1.
Define Virtual Community business objectives This is performed through a bottom-up approach, starting from the analysis of the proposed virtual Community business cases, with the aim of specifying the objectives of the different Virtual Communities, and thus the relevant requirements in terms of set up and management of the network. 2.
Identification of needed operational roles and functions and relevant
operational processes In this phase, further to the definition of Community requirements, a detailed breakdown of all the required functions and roles necessary for the optimum operation of the Communities is derived. In parallel, a list of specific management processes, applicable to each of the selected networks, will be designed. Such processes span from the specific administration processes to the content management, synchronous and asynchronous operations (forum, discussions, content evaluation) and so on. The definition of a consistent set of business metrics is also performed, in order to allow for the evaluation of the benefit induced by the adoption of the Community. 3.
Kn-Net implementation The main goal relevant to this phase is the implementation of the relevant Kn-Net components, together with the identified roles and processes. The activity implies the set up of a customized web site to enable the different roles needed to manage the virtual community from the supporting infrastructure point of view. Further to the set up, the implementation of the available procedure and processes is performed. Community management team is also trained on the new proposed approach. Pilot activities planning are also defined, in order to ensure that all the experiment objectives are met. 4.
Virtual Community Management and Operations This phase is mainly focused on the conduction of Virtual Communities operations, utilizing also the contributions coming from current members. Results from pilot operations are used to upgrade both the methodology and the work environment concept and implementation. 5.
Metrics analysis and evaluation and final reporting Further and in parallel to pilot case operations, the evaluation of the metrics defined under step 2 is performed, with the aim of contributing to the adoption of the specified approach by delivering reliable, quantitative metrics. Metrics span over community activity measurement, increase of community members, participation to the Community life and evaluation of relevant improved business prospects, associated to the selected community
